Where do we find Arab nations in the Global Corruption Index?
As we all know corruption take place in most countries worldwide, but for Arab nations the situation is worsening according to the Corruption Perceptions Index Report.
So let’s take a quick look at the most corrupt Arab nations according to the index.
The Corruption Perceptions Index is a report published annually by Transparency International (TI), which is a global movement with an aim to stop the abuse of power, in which it ranks 180 countries and territories around the world using a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
The 2019 report revealed that some Arab countries have improved in the ranking, while others have worsened. Two-thirds of the countries scored below 50; the average score globally sits at a slump of 43.
“Citizens are fed up with corrupt leaders and institutions,” the report says.
Recognize the most corrupt Arab nations
Somalia was at top among country worldwide, as it ranked ninth on the Global Corruption Index, while Syria was the third, as it ranks thirteenth on the index.
To put things in perspective, here’s a ranking of the Arab countries — from least corrupt to most corrupt. The higher the score, the least corrupt the nation is:

Additionally, the report highlighted the high levels of corruption in Lebanon, in particular the corruption that pervades elections.
According to the Global Corruption Barometer (Middle East and North Africa) report, nearly one in two people in Lebanon “is offered bribes in exchange for their votes, while more than one in four receives threats if they don’t vote a certain way.”
Is there any improvement from last year?
well, some Arab countries improved slightly over the stated period including Jordan (1 point), Morocco (2 points), and others, while many nations saw an increasing in corruption.
