Kristina and her husband Martin, the founders of ‘Bull Market Girlfriends‘, which sells NFT, ignited a new discussion with the ‘girlfriends‘ they put up for sale on the platform.
The 2,500 hand-drawn ‘girlfriends’ portraits of women have already generated nearly $1 million in profits through OpenSea, the NFT sales platform.
‘If you like it, you can buy it‘
While this attempt to ‘buy and sell women‘ has been the subject of criticism, Bull Market Girlfriends argues that their collection is inspired by the long artistic history of female portraiture:
“First of all, it’s an art project. If you like it, you can buy it.”
Speaking to Indy100, the collection’s illustrator, Kristina, said, “I’m a woman who paints portraits of other beautiful women. Those who find it offensive have to live with their own anger, it doesn’t affect the collection.” And added, ‘Bull Market Girlfriends‘ has one of the highest proportions of women in the industry’.
Bull Market Girlfriends drew inspiration from real women, including Lindsay Lohan, during the creation of the collection and signed official contracts with them. Speaking to Indy100, the owner of a girlfriend named ‘Jake‘ announced that he bought the girlfriend profile at a cost of 400 dollars and aims to sell it for 10–15 thousand dollars.
