German artist Wilhelm Koch has created a life-size gold-coloured sculpture of Merkel on a horse with her cult hand posture. Expressing his admiration for Merkel, Koch said that he designed such a statue to commemorate her after 16 years as prime minister.
The 2.7-metre 3D-printed sculpture will be on display in front of the Tempel Museum in Etsdorf in the Amberg-Sulzbach district until summer 2022. The 1.5 ton statue has a composite bronze shell which makes it ‘look pretty classic’.
Wilhelm Koch also designed ‘Merkel Beer’ specifically for the statue’s inauguration ceremony.
Artist Koch said that he made the work without financial support from anyone and that he would donate the income to the Tempel Museum by selling it after it was exhibited.
The Hermann-Spielwaren toy factory had designed a toy for Merkel, who was preparing to leave office.
