A new study from Augsburg
According to a new study from Augsburg, the cause of death in COVID 19 sufferers is due to “presumably irreversible” damage to the lung tissue. In contrast, no changes were found in the other organs of the autopsied patients.
Doctors at the University Hospital in Augsburg have consistently found “unusually severe, sometimes presumably irreversible” damage to the lung tissue during the post-mortem examination of corona patients. The university clinic announced that they were not caused by ventilation, but rather directly by the virus. The medical team sees the change as the cause of death.
So, The team autopsied 19 dead. The results of the first ten autopsies are described in the ” Journal of the American Medical Association ” (“Jama”). The people had an average age of 79 years. “All patients suffered from serious underlying diseases, which did not lead directly to death,” said Professor Bruno Märkl, director of pathology at the university hospital. No apparently serious changes were found in the other organs.
In Berlin, at least eleven Covid-19 dead had previously been autopsied. This emerges from a response published last week by the Senate Department; for Health to a parliamentary question from left-wing MP Wolfgang Albers. Blood poisoning in pneumonia (four cases); lung failure (three cases) and heart failure (two cases) were the most common causes of death. In all eleven cases, the Charité Institute of Pathology found that the causes of death were “causally caused by Covid-19”; it said.
