Attack On Vehicle Convoy Of Mining Company
It is reported that in the attack on a vehicle convoy of a mining company east of Burkina Faso died 37 civilians and soldiers.
According to the Burkina Faso Official News Agency, the convoy carrying workers in the gold mine operated by the Canadian-based SEMAFO company in the Eastern Province, was attacked between Gourma and Tapoa.
After the vehicle in front of the convoy exploded through the mine laid on the road, the attackers opened fire on other vehicles.
37 civilians and soldiers were killed in the attack, at least 20 people were injured. While the heavy wounded were taken to hospitals in the capital Vagadugu , the lightly wounded were referred to the Fada N’Gourma Regional Hospital. It was learned that some people in the convoy are not still receive any news.
General Saidou Toussaint Prosper Sanou, Governor of the Eastern Province, said in a statement, security forces began to search for the attackers and disappearances in the region. Sanou condemned the attack, which he described as “barbaric and cowardly.”
More than 600 people lost their lives in 4 years in attacks organized by terrorist organizations in Burkina Faso. On 1 January 2019, a state of emergency was declared in the north, Sahel region and western and central parts of Burkina Faso due to the increasing terrorist incidents. The state of emergency is still being implemented in 7 of the 13 regions that make up Burkina Faso.
