While 5 people lost their lives in an armed attack during the election held in Mexico yesterday, body parts were thrown at ballot stations in the city of Tijuana. Since the campaign period that started in September before the election, nearly 800 incidents of violence have been recorded. At least 90 politicians were killed in about 200 armed attacks.
In Mexico, the people went to the ballot stations yesterday to elect members of the 500-seat House of Representatives, 15 state governors, and 20,417 local and regional administrators. The violence that started before the election continued in different parts of the country on election day.
5 People Got Killed In The Truck
The first incident on election day occurred in the state of Chiapas at midnight. A pickup truck carrying election supplies was ambushed by gunmen near the town of Arellano Buenavista. Five people in the truck were killed in the attack.
There were no casualties in three separate shootings in the city of Tlachichuca, Puebla province. First, at around 08:20 am local time, a black minibus opened fire on a ballot station. A similar incident took place in another election center a few minutes after the incident, which caused fear and panic among the voters waiting in line. The same people opened fire on the election center near 20 November Park at around 09:00.
They Threw A Body Piece To The Election Center
In the city of Tijuana, Baja California, in two separate attacks severed human heads were thrown at ballot stations. Around 9:00 am, a man approached ballot box number 1440 on Hacienda de las Palmeras street, throwing a human head into the cabinet and fled. According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, who walked away from the scene on foot, could not be caught. About 40 minutes after this incident, two bags containing the remains of bodies were thrown near another ballot station in another part of the city. In the afternoon, a severed head was thrown at a ballot station in the Mariano Matamoros neighborhood of the same city.
In the city of Mexicali, Baja California, a group of armed men opened fire on the local office of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador‘s party, the National Movement for Renewal (Morena). In the city of San Luis Potosi, an armed group that came to the 808 ballot box first opened fire, then seized the ballot box and left the scene. The district prosecutor’s office announced that an investigation was launched into the incident, which did not cause any loss of life.
Ballots Were Stolen
Another shooting attack on the ballot station took place in Oaxaca. An armed group came to the ballot station in an elementary school in the Progreso de Lagunas district, threatening the voters and stealing their ballot papers. After the incident, which did not cause any loss of life, the election was suspended in the region.
In the city of Naucalpan, in the bomb attack on the election center number 2895, it was stated that there were injured people, while the materials and furniture in the election center were scattered around with the effect of the explosion.
