China to impose sanctions on some US officials
China announces sanctions against some US officials
At the daily press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced that they would impose sanctions on senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz and members of the House of Representatives Chris Smith and Sam Brownback.
Beijing’s decision to retaliate against Washington’s sanctions aimed at punishing China for its treatment of ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang region is largely symbolic.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said sanctions against four US officials will begin Monday. Details on the subject were not disclosed.
In the middle of last week, the U.S. decided to sanction a senior official from the Chinese Communist Party and three other officials for alleged human rights violations in the Xinjiang region.
