According to the BBC‘s report, the community in Hong Kong is reluctant to get vaccinated for Covid-19. While only 20% of the people were vaccinated, 1/3 of the health sector employees got their vaccinations.
The reason for this behavior seems like the low number of cases in Hong Kong and lack of trust in the government.
As the expiration date of the vaccines approached, this situation prompted the management.
Thomas Tsang, a former controller of the Health Protection Center, said “It is not right for Hong Kong to sit on an unused dose stack while the rest of the world struggling with vaccine shortages”.
On the other hand, some local politicians have suggested that vaccines with approaching expiration dates to be exported to countries in need unless there is an increase in vaccination demands.
