Football: Christoph Daum is working on the comeback;
Christoph Daum has been a coach without a job for around three years – this time should now come to an end for the former national coach. At least when it comes to Daum. He has one post in mind, but various football legends have the same idea.
Just three years after his last coaching job, Christoph Daum has signalled his interest in a comeback as a coach with the English second division club Bristol City. “Yes, it is true that a friend who lives in Bristol has made contact with Bristol City. No concrete discussions have yet taken place with Bristol City,” said Daum at Sport1 (Saturday) and confirmed reports from the “Bristol Post”.
Club boss Mark Ashton has signalled his interest, said the 66-year-old Daum. The son of owner John Lansdown also considers him “a suitable candidate as head coach for Bristol City,” said Daum. The next few days would show “to what extent everything becomes concrete”.
Bristol City had been on leave from coach Lee Johnson last weekend, having previously lost 0-1 to Cardiff City. Four games before the end of the championship season, Bristol was twelfth in the table.
“Bristol City is a club with enthusiastic fans, excellent infrastructure and solid structures,” said Daum, who was coach of the Romanian national team until September 2017. In previous years he had coached numerous clubs, in the Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart, 1. FC Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt. “English football, whether Premier League or Championship, is very well organized. I see it as an interesting challenge to play a part in shaping it,” said Daum.
