Former US President Trump, who received an honorary black belt from the President of the World Taekwondo Academy, will go to Congress in a taekwondo outfit if he is re-elected in 2024.
Former US President Donald Trump has been awarded an honorary black belt in taekwondo “for his interest in martial arts”. Thus, Trump received the highest level, the 9th Dan generation.
The honorary belt and certificate were presented to Trump on Friday by Lee Dong-seop, president of the South Korean capital, Seoul-based Kukkiwon, aka the World Taekwondo Academy.
Posing with a sash at the ceremony at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida, Trump said, “It is my pleasure and honor to receive this honorary certificate. Taekwondo is a great martial art for self-defense during these times.” Trump, who promised to wear a taekwondo outfit in Congress if he takes the presidency again in the 2024 presidential election, invited Lee to perform a taekwondo show in the USA.
“I heard that Trump is very interested in taekwondo,” said Lee, asking the former leader for support for Kukkiwon and taekwondo.
Among the poses hanging on the wall in the room where the photos were taken, it was noteworthy that there was a frame from the moment Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the border.
According to Kukkiwon’s website, in order to reach this highest level in taekwondo, the candidate must have practiced the sport for at least 9 years and submit a report of at least 10 pages on ‘Taekwondo Life’ or ‘The Spirit of Taekwondo’.
Russian President Vladimir Putin received an honorary black belt in taekwondo during his visit to South Korea in 2013 and was declared a ‘grandmaster’. Putin, who has been practicing judo since the age of 11 also has a black belt in judo and calls judo ‘my first love’.
