Gunfire at Texas military base
Alert at a US military base in Texas – an armed man shoots around. The FBI speaks of a terrorist attack. The attacker is “neutralized”.
The U.S. federal FBI police believe a terrorist background after an attack on a U.S. naval base in the state of Texas. A gunman attacked and slightly injured a soldier at Corpus Christi base in the morning (local time), the U.S. Navy said.
The base was then cordoned off for a few hours and the suspect was finally “neutralized”. The FBI has determined that the incident is “related to terrorism,” investigator Leah Greeves said at a press conference. The suspect is dead. There may be another person related to the incident who is volatile. The FBI called on the population to be calm but vigilant. Concerning the ongoing investigation, there was initially no further information.
In December, a gunman at a Florida military base killed three soldiers and injured eight others before he was shot by emergency services. According to the US investigators, the shooter had links to the Al Qaeda terrorist group.
