At the meeting, where the supply and demand for cryptocurrencies in the Iranian economy were also discussed, the report submitted by the Central Bank on cryptocurrency mining and transactions was evaluated.
Emphasizing the need to protect and support national interests in activities related to digital money and cryptocurrency at the meeting, President Rouhani pointed out the importance of acting carefully on legal and technical issues in this regard.
Rouhani underlined that a dynamic strategy should be developed in this area and all necessary measures should be taken about the role of cryptocurrencies in the country’s macroeconomy.
Drawing attention to the importance of raising the awareness of the society about cryptocurrency activities, Rouhani emphasized that investments in this field should be done professionally due to the risks associated with cryptocurrency trading, and he said “Related ministries should find solutions as soon as possible in order to legalize cryptocurrency activities and protect the public’s capital in this field. Necessary laws and instructions should be determined.”
The Ban On Bitcoin Mining Due To Power Outages Will Last Until September 22
Iranian President Rouhani added that the ban on cryptocurrency mining, which is shown as the source of the problems in electricity supply in the country, will continue until September 22.
Due to the mass power cuts in Iran, one of the countries where the most cryptocurrency production is made in the world, Bitcoin mining activities in the country were suspended on the order of President Rouhani on May 26.
Iran’s electricity distribution company “Tevanir” announced on May 26 that 50 licensed mining centers operate in 14 provinces of the country and consume a total of 209 megawatts of electricity.
The mandate of the Rouhani government will come to an end with the presidential elections to be held on June 18 in Iran.
