The scale of the Morocco–France scandal, which emerged from the scandal of the Israeli company NSO Group, of listening-following thousands of journalists, activists, and dissidents with the Pegasus spyware that was sold to the governments of countries, is growing.
It has been revealed that President Emmanuel Macron is among the more than 1000 French citizens targeted with the Pegasus spyware, by the administration of King Mohammed VI in the former French colony of Morocco.
Le Monde, the respected newspaper of the French left-wing, wrote that the Moroccan government hacked a smartphone belonging to President Macron using Pegasus spyware. According to the news, Macron, former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, and 14 other senior members of the government were targeted by the Moroccan government’s Pegasus operation in 2019.
It is stated that Macron has been using the hacked phone since 2017 when he was elected as president.
The public is familiar with the fact that the neoliberal leader, who is known to be very fond of smartphones and uses multiple electronic devices, is constantly seen talking, texting, video chatting, and reading something from his screen with them.
The Moroccan government did not make a statement about this claim.
