JACQUES CHIRAC: FORMER FRENCH PRESIDENT DIED
Former French president Jacques Chirac died at the age of 86. Chirac was the focus of corruption scandals in his last years.
“President Jacques Chirac died peacefully next to his loved ones this morning,” Chirac‘s son-in-law told the French news agency AFP.
Chirac, who served as President for two consecutive terms, opposed liberalism that was strengthened by Ronald Reagan and Margeret Thatcher in the United States and Britain, and described this trend as ‘ultra liberalism’. Chirac, who said that France should focus on social liberalism, adopted an economic understanding supported by state investments.
While Chirac was in power, he reduced the term of office of the Presidents from 7 to 5 years.
