The research conducted by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation revealed that the diversity of the newly found spider species, of which four species have been identified so far, is ‘much higher than previously known’.
According to the news in the Independent, the study published in the journal Arthropoda Selecta states, “The specific title is dedicated to Tukaram Omble AC, the hero of the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack, who hit 23 bullets and caught the terrorist of the attack.”
During the attack, militants Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan, who ambushed the police team in front of the city’s Cama Hospital, confiscated Omble‘s rifle. Omble, on the other hand, took cover to protect other officers on the scene and was hit by a large number of bullets, giving the security forces enough time and cover to capture Kasab alive.
During the attacks, the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) carried out 12 gun attacks and bombings across Mumbai, including the Taj Hotel, Leopold Cafe, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, and Cama Hospital.
The attacks, which lasted for four days from 26 November 2008, killed more than 150 people and injured more than 300.
