RKI (Robert Koch Institute) reports 21 866 new infections
The number of new infections in Germany is approaching the weekend’s high. In the morning, the Robert Koch Institute counts almost 22,000 new corona cases within a day. The falling infection rate gives us a little hope.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 21,866 new corona infections within 24 hours. That is almost 3400 cases more than on Wednesday. Compared to Thursday last week, the value is slightly higher. At the time, the number of new infections reported was 19,990. A high was reached on Saturday, with 23,399 recorded cases.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the RKI has counted a total of 727,553 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany (as of November 12, 12 a.m.). The number of deaths related to the virus rose 215 to a total of 11,982. On Wednesday, that increase was 261 cases. The RKI estimates that around 467,800 people have now recovered.
According to the RKI situation report on Wednesday evening, the so-called seven-day R was 0.89 (previous day: 0.92). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect around 89 other people. The value represented the occurrence of infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
In addition, the respective daily values map different recording periods: the gl-news evaluation collects the country information published by the evening and uses this to calculate the daily status of the reported number of cases, which is usually posted from 8 p.m. The RKI’s recording system, on the other hand, takes into account incoming reports up to midnight, with the current data status announced the following morning.
