Syria statement from Lavrov: Turkey Cannot Remain Indifferent to What is Happening
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Turkey cannot remain indifferent to what is happening in Syria.
Lavrov made a statement regarding Russia’s presence in Syria in an interview on the Arabic site of the Russian media organ Russia Today (RT).
Speaking about the Russian forces in Syria, Lavrov said, “We are in Syria at the request of the official head of state and the legitimate government of the country. We are there in accordance with the UN conventions and we are implementing the UN Security Council resolution 2254. We will continue this and the Syrian administration will continue to do so. We will support efforts to reclaim all of their lands.”
Pointing out that there are forces from various countries in Syria, Lavrov said, “There are still units of the armies of the countries that no one has called there. The US soldiers still occupy a large part of the eastern bank of the Euphrates. They are trying to establish a so-called state there, they support partition, and the Iraqi Kurds in the region are trying to form a union. They are using the feelings of the part of the people. In this way, they cause problems in the structure that unites Iraqi and Syrian Kurds.”
Lavrov said that all this situation caused tension in the region, “Turkey, of course, cannot remain indifferent to these. We want these problems to be resolved within the framework of respect for Syria’s independence and territorial integrity.”
Russian Foreign Minister, “We are also meeting with the Kurds. We invite them to see more carefully how the United States has made a promise and not fulfilled it. Let alone international legitimacy, according to pragmatic grounds, to have a serious dialogue with Damascus and to organize life in a united state. It’s best to make a deal.”
