The New Zero SR / S
The range of electric motorcycles is still quite manageable. But the pioneer Zero from the USA has meanwhile significantly expanded its range. A sports tourer has recently been part of the portfolio and it doesn’t do a bad job.
US company Zero has been specializing in electric motorcycles for 14 years. Initially ridiculed, the startup from Santa Cruz, California, has meanwhile blossomed into a serious manufacturer of two-wheeled mobility thanks to its long breath. Now the Americans are trying to conquer a segment that was previously not covered by electric motorcycles: The new SR / S marks a classic sports tourer, just with an electric motor.
That is why the Zero comes with full cladding and two-part seating, which actually offers the driver an ambiance suitable for touring: At a low height of 80.5 centimeters, the firm, but not uncomfortable upholstery results in relaxed knee angles and astonishingly high handlebars on which the Pilot has to stretch over the somewhat too long fuel tank dummy.
110 hp over 30 minutes
Just like on a normal motorcycle, the ignition key is turned, the colorful TFT display lights up, and the first turn of the throttle is off. Anyone who did not expect the current acceleration will be quite a surprise. Therefore, you should first engage the “Rain” driving mode to get used to the seamless power development. Four driving modes that are preset at the factory and one that can be freely configured using a free app when the vehicle is stationary are available via the left handlebar controls, combining speed, power, torque, and the degree of recuperation and traction control.
The technical data sheet shows a maximum output of 110 hp
From a standing start, the Zero inspires with even pressure in all situations, from the first turn of the throttle. Without a gearbox or gear change, the Zero moves forward seamlessly. The technical data sheet shows a maximum output of 110 hp, but the vehicle registration document states the continuous output for electric vehicles, which can be provided over 30 minutes.
