Organizing Committee Chief Executive Toshiro Muto held a press conference in Tokyo, and when a press member asked, “Can the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics be canceled at the last minute due to Covid-19 cases?” He replied with the following answer:
“Every possibility is on the table. If there is a sudden increase in cases, we will continue discussions. We will meet with the authorities if necessary. We cannot predict what the number of coronavirus cases will be in advance. Therefore, if there is a sudden increase in cases, we will continue negotiations. At this point, coronavirus cases may increase or decrease. Whenever the increase is a fact, we’ll think about what we should do.”
Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics Organizing Committee announced that a total of 71 people, consisting of athletes, officials, and volunteers, have been infected with the virus so far before the games.
