Trump’s Tweet Is Restricted By Twitter
In his tweet on Sunday, Trump argued that voting in the mail would lead to irregularity and carries the risk of contact with the corona virus.
Trump used the following statements in his post:
“So now the Democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they placed in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not Covid sanitized. A big fraud!”
Twitter’s warning included the note “It can deter people from voting by misleading people for health reasons.”
Trump’s tweet in question is kept closed to users’ interaction.
RECORD CAN BE BREAKED IN VOTING BY MAIL
Trump had previously argued that letter-based voting would lead to election irregularities and benefit his Democratic rival Joe Biden. However, there is no evidence that postal voting led to a notable election irregularity.
Trump’s appointment of Republican supporter Louis DeJoy as head of the US Postal Service in May and the planned changes afterwards were described by Democrats as “attempts to sabotage the election”. Twitter’s decision to restrict Trump’s tweet is not the first.
In May, Trump’s tweet, “If looting begins, firing begins,” which he shared with protesters of George Floyd’s murder by the police, was also restricted on the grounds that he “glorifies violence.”
