Us to make the biggest ever vaccine investment in Sanofi and GSK
Trump administration to make all-time high consistent vaccine investment with $ 2.1 billion in two pharmaceutical companies
US President Donald Trump’s administration will make the highest vaccine investment ever, with $ 2.1 billion to Covid-19 vaccine partners Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline Plc.
Funding under Operation Warp Speed will support clinical trials and manufacturing for the vaccine, while 100 million doses will be secured for the U.S. if successful, the two companies announced Friday. In addition, the U.S. has an option to take an additional 500 million doses in the long term.
Glaxo shares rose 1.6 percent in trading in London. Shares of Sanofi, which traded in Paris, rose 1.4 percent.
Aside from the deal, the U.S. government has committed billions of dollars to other experimental vaccines. But these vaccine candidates need to prove their effectiveness in Tests.
The development of an effective vaccine is seen as the key to the exit from the coronavirus pandemic, which has cost 675 thousand lives around the world.
