VOLKSWAGEN- ABOUT 450 THOUSAND PEOPLE IN GERMANY AGAINST THE AUTOMOTIVE GIANT OPENDED A HISTORIC LAWSUIT
Hundreds of thousands of people in Germany filed a lawsuit against the automotive giant Volkswagen for fraud in the emission tests of diesel cars. The trial is expected to last for years.
The first hearing of the case was held in Braunschweig near Wolfsburg, where the company’s head office is located today. The cost of the scandal that occurred in 2015 to the company has so far exceeded 30 billion euros.
Consumer rights group VZBV, representing the plaintiffs, says Volkswagen deliberately misled consumers by showing the results of the emission test different from what it is.
The company’s lawyers say the case can last for 4 years and will be rejected after the transfer to the upper court.
