Wearing a mask reduces the spread of the coronavirus by 75 percent
Researchers in Hong Kong analyzed the spread of the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) among hamsters. When the cages of the animals were covered with mask material, it was seen that the transmission of the virus decreased considerably. Based on the results of the research, scientists said that facial masks are very effective against Covid-19, and virus spread can drop to as much as 75 percent.
Scientists from the University of Hong Kong conducted an interesting experiment to analyze the protection of masks against Covid-19.
The researchers placed a healthy group of hamsters in the cages, half of which were infected with Covid-19.
Some of the cages were covered with mask material. Examining the distribution of viruses in different scenarios, experts found that the spread of the virus was significantly reduced when animals were completely covered.
However, a fan was placed between the cages in order to transmit the respiratory droplets of Covid-19 hamsters to others.
In the experiments, the differences between the mask glands made of different materials were also examined.
IT STOPPED THE SPREAD 75 PERCENT
Experts said that regardless of the type of the mask, Covid-19 significantly reduced the spread compared to no mask.
In experiments where the cage was never covered, two-thirds of the hamsters were infected. Covering the cage with infected hamsters reduced the Covid-19 contamination rate to healthy hamsters by 75 percent.
Based on the results of the research, scientists stated that wearing a face mask has a vital function in the Covid-19 spread.
