WhatsApp users were unable to send or receive messages
WhatsApp closed briefly on Tuesday and users were unable to send or receive messages in Facebook’s end-to-end encrypted messaging app.
Affected users may have seen WhatsApp “connecting” to the service when trying to send messages. The outage started at 4 p.m. ET seemed to be working again only by 4:30 p.m. ET.
A Facebook spokesman confirmed the outage when reached, but did not reveal the details.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible,” the spokesperson said.
WhatsApp reached 2 billion user mark earlier this year. Facebook bought WhatsApp, one of the biggest purchases of the social media giant, for $ 19 billion in 2014.
