World’s Youngest Known Coronavirus Victim Rachel Died Within 2 Hours
The girl, 12-year-old Rachel, who lives in Ghent, Belgium, became the youngest victim to die from coronavirus worldwide.
Rachel, who was said to be a healthy child and had no permanent ailment, died in just 2 hours.
Belgian authorities are investigating allegations that the ambulance service did not intervene with the girl.
12-year-old Rachel, a family of Ghanaian origin who has lived in Ghent for 30 years, was taken to her family doctor by her mother when she was ill 3 days ago.
The family doctor sent the girl home after the examination, stating that there is nothing to be afraid of.
Rachel, who was cared for by her family, soon regained consciousness. Eating, drinking has improved.
She watched TV with her brothers and played games. On Monday, however, Rachel suddenly became unwell.
Rachel’s family, who were alarmed when her fever rose rapidly, called the emergency services number to call an ambulance, as they did not have a car.
According to the Niuewsblad newspaper, the dispatcher at the call center couldn’t get along with people shouting in panic.
Unable to get the help they wanted from the call center, the family drove Rachel to the hospital in a neighbor’s car. However, the girl, whose condition worsened, could not be saved and died about 2 hours after the onset of the virus.
